Common use
Travoprost ophthalmic solution is a prescription eye drop medication used to lower elevated intraocular pressure (IOP) in patients diagnosed with open-angle glaucoma or ocular hypertension. Elevated eye pressure is a major risk factor for optic nerve damage that can lead to irreversible vision loss if left untreated. Travoprost belongs to the prostaglandin analogue class of glaucoma medications and works by increasing the uveoscleral outflow of aqueous humor (the fluid inside the eye), effectively reducing intraocular pressure. This mechanism helps protect the optic nerve from progressive damage associated with high eye pressure. Travoprost eye drops are among the most widely prescribed first-line treatments for glaucoma management worldwide. Patients who buy Travoprost online benefit from its once-daily dosing convenience and its proven efficacy in maintaining healthy eye pressure levels over the long term.
Dosage and direction
Instill one drop of Travoprost ophthalmic solution into the affected eye(s) once daily in the evening, or as directed by your ophthalmologist. Evening administration is recommended because studies show that prostaglandin analogues are most effective when applied at night. Before applying the drops, wash your hands thoroughly. Tilt your head back, pull down the lower eyelid to create a small pocket, and squeeze one drop into the pocket. Close your eyes gently for one to two minutes and press lightly on the inner corner of the eye (near the nose) to minimize systemic absorption. Avoid touching the dropper tip to any surface, including the eye, to maintain sterility. If you wear contact lenses, remove them before application and wait at least 15 minutes before reinserting. If using multiple eye medications, space them at least five minutes apart.
Precautions
Before starting Travoprost eye drops, inform your ophthalmologist if you have a history of eye inflammation (uveitis or iritis), active eye infections, previous eye surgery, aphakia (absence of the crystalline lens), pseudophakia with a torn posterior lens capsule, or known risk factors for macular edema. Travoprost may cause gradual, permanent changes in eye color due to increased melanin deposition in the iris, particularly in patients with mixed-color irises (e.g., blue-brown, green-brown). It may also cause darkening, thickening, and increased growth of eyelashes on the treated eye. These cosmetic changes may be noticeable if only one eye is being treated. Regular ophthalmologic examinations are recommended during treatment.
Contraindications
Do not use Travoprost if you are allergic to travoprost, benzalkonium chloride (preservative), or any other component of the eye drop formulation. Travoprost is not recommended during pregnancy unless the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus. Use with caution during breastfeeding, as it is unknown whether travoprost passes into breast milk. This prostaglandin analogue eye drop is not approved for use in children without ophthalmologic supervision.
Possible side effect
Common side effects of Travoprost eye drops include conjunctival hyperemia (eye redness), ocular discomfort or irritation, foreign body sensation, eye pain, pruritus (itching), and blurred vision immediately after application. Increased iris pigmentation, eyelash changes (length, thickness, pigmentation, and number), and periorbital skin darkening may occur with continued use. Less common side effects include dry eyes, excessive tearing, photophobia (light sensitivity), or lid crusting. Rare but serious effects may include macular edema, anterior uveitis (eye inflammation), or severe allergic reactions. Contact your ophthalmologist if you experience sudden vision changes, eye pain, or persistent irritation.
Drug interaction
Avoid using other prostaglandin analogue eye drops simultaneously with Travoprost, as concomitant use may reduce the IOP-lowering effect or increase the risk of side effects. If you are using other ophthalmic medications, administer them at least five minutes apart. Beta-blocker eye drops, carbonic anhydrase inhibitors, and alpha-agonist eye drops may be used alongside Travoprost as prescribed by your doctor for additional IOP reduction. Inform your ophthalmologist about all eye drops and systemic medications you are currently using.
Missed dose
If you miss a dose of Travoprost, apply it as soon as you remember on the same day. If it is almost time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed one — do not use two doses at once. Resume your regular once-daily evening dosing schedule. Missing a dose occasionally is unlikely to significantly affect treatment, but consistent daily use is important for maintaining optimal eye pressure control.
Overdose
Topical overdose of Travoprost in the eye may lead to increased eye irritation, redness, or excessive reduction in intraocular pressure. In case of accidental oral ingestion, symptoms may include nausea, vomiting, or flushing. Seek immediate medical attention if accidental ingestion occurs. For topical overuse, rinse the eyes with clean water and contact your ophthalmologist.
Storage
Store Travoprost eye drops at room temperature between 2 and 25 degrees Celsius, away from moisture and direct light. Keep the bottle tightly closed when not in use to prevent contamination. Do not freeze. Discard any remaining solution four weeks after first opening the bottle. Store out of reach of children and pets.
