infectious diseases; extensive surgery, trauma, or extensive burns and other conditions requiring insulin therapy; abnormal liver function; chronic alcoholism or acute alcohol intoxication; lactic acidosis (including history); within 48 hours before and 48 hours after radioisotope or radiological examinations with iodinated contrast agents; patients over 60 years old or those performing heavy physical labor (increased risk of lactic acidosis); and patients on a very low-calorie diet (less than 1000 kcal per day).



Side effects

The most common side effects of Glucovance may be rather severe and may require discontinuation of the medication: swelling or rapid weight gain, nausea, vomiting, gas, bloating, diarrhea, and loss of appetite. These gastrointestinal symptoms often improve over time as your body adjusts to the metformin component.

In case of lactic acidosis — a rare but potentially life-threatening condition — seek emergency medical help immediately. Warning signs include: shortness of breath, stomach pain, weakness, increasing sleepiness, slow heart rate, cold feeling, muscle pain, feeling light-headed, and fainting.

Azole antifungals (such as fluconazole) also interact with Glucovance and may require dose adjustments. Always inform your doctor about all medications you are taking.



Missed dose

If you forgot to take your dose of Glucovance at the scheduled time, take it as soon as you remember — preferably with your next meal.
