Common use

Compazine (prochlorperazine) is a phenothiazine antiemetic and antipsychotic medication used to treat a range of conditions including severe nausea and vomiting, non-psychotic anxiety, and psychotic disorders such as schizophrenia. When you buy Compazine online, you are choosing a well-established anti-nausea medication that has been trusted by healthcare professionals for decades. Prochlorperazine works by blocking dopamine receptors in the brain, which helps suppress the signals that trigger nausea, vomiting, and psychotic symptoms. Compazine is particularly effective for vomiting treatment associated with surgery, chemotherapy, and migraine nausea. As an antipsychotic, it is prescribed for managing symptoms of schizophrenia ranging from mild to severe presentations. Compazine generic formulations deliver the same therapeutic benefits as the brand-name medication. Additionally, prochlorperazine is sometimes used as a short-term anxiety treatment when other first-line options are not suitable.

Dosage and direction

Take Compazine orally with a full glass of water, with or without food or milk. Follow your doctor's prescribed dosage carefully.

The recommended dose for adults depends on the condition being treated:

To Control Severe Nausea and Vomiting:

The standard antiemetic dosage is one 5-milligram or 10-milligram tablet taken 3 or 4 times daily. Your doctor will determine the optimal dose based on the severity of your nausea and the underlying cause, including migraine nausea or post-operative vomiting treatment.

For Non-Psychotic Anxiety Treatment:

The usual dose is 5 milligrams taken 3 or 4 times a day. Treatment should generally not exceed 12 weeks, as prochlorperazine is not intended for long-term anxiety management.

For Relatively Mild Schizophrenia:

The typical dose is 5 or 10 milligrams taken 3 or 4 times daily.

For Moderate to Severe Schizophrenia:

Treatment usually begins at 10 milligrams taken 3 or 4 times daily. Your physician will adjust the dose based on your response.

For More Severe Schizophrenia:

Daily dosages may range from 100 to 150 milligrams, carefully titrated under close medical supervision.

Dosage for children depends on the condition, body weight, and age:

Children under 2 years of age or weighing less than 20 pounds should not receive Compazine.

For Severe Nausea and Vomiting in Children:

Oral use of Compazine is generally not needed for more than one day.

Children 20 to 29 Pounds: 2.5 mg 1 or 2 times daily. Do not exceed 7.5 mg daily.

Children 30 to 39 Pounds: 2.5 mg 2 or 3 times daily. Do not exceed 10 mg daily.

Children 40 to 85 Pounds: 2.5 mg 3 times daily, or 5 mg 2 times daily. Do not exceed 15 mg daily.

For Psychotic Disorders in Children:

Children 2 to 5 Years: Starting dose is 2.5 mg 2 or 3 times daily. Do not exceed 10 mg on the first day and 20 mg per day thereafter.

Children 6 to 12 Years: Starting dose is 2.5 mg 2 or 3 times daily. Do not exceed 10 mg on the first day and 25 mg per day thereafter.

Elderly patients may require lower doses and more gradual dose adjustments due to increased sensitivity to prochlorperazine.

Note: This information is for general reference only. Always consult your healthcare provider before you buy prochlorperazine or begin treatment to ensure optimal results.

Precautions

Use Compazine with particular caution if you have hepatic or renal disease, glaucoma, prostatic hypertrophy, severe asthma, cardiovascular disease, or epilepsy. Prolonged use requires regular medical monitoring. Do not use this antiemetic in children under 2 years of age. Compazine should not be used during pregnancy, while trying to conceive, or while breastfeeding without explicit medical advice from your doctor. Prochlorperazine may impair your ability to drive or operate machinery due to sedation and dizziness. Avoid excessive sun exposure, as this medication can increase sensitivity to sunlight. Elderly patients with dementia-related psychosis treated with antipsychotic drugs are at increased risk of death; Compazine is not approved for dementia-related psychosis.

Contraindications

Compazine is contraindicated in individuals with known hypersensitivity to prochlorperazine or any component of the formulation. It is also contraindicated in patients with severe toxic central nervous system depression, coma, subcortical brain damage, bone marrow depression, severe liver or cardiac disease, narrow-angle glaucoma, and in pediatric surgical patients. Compazine generic versions carry the same contraindication profile.

Possible side effect

Seek immediate medical attention if you experience signs of a serious allergic reaction.

Serious side effects of prochlorperazine that require prompt medical attention include:

- involuntary twitching or uncontrollable movements of the eyes, tongue, lips, face, arms, or legs (tardive dyskinesia);

- tremor, drooling, difficulty swallowing, problems with balance or walking;

- restlessness, agitation, or an inability to sit still (akathisia);

- high fever, rigid muscles, confusion, sweating, fast or uneven heartbeats, rapid breathing (neuroleptic malignant syndrome);

- fainting or feeling like you might pass out;

- seizures (blackout or convulsions);

- decreased night vision, tunnel vision, watery eyes, increased light sensitivity;

- nausea, stomach pain, skin rash, jaundice (yellowing of skin or eyes);

- pale skin, easy bruising or bleeding, fever, sore throat, flu-like symptoms;

- decreased urination or inability to urinate;

If you experience any of these side effects, stop taking Compazine and consult your doctor as soon as possible.

Drug interaction

Compazine may interact with a variety of medications including other CNS depressants, anticholinergic drugs, lithium, anticonvulsants, and blood pressure medications. An interaction between two medications does not always mean you must discontinue one of them. Inform your doctor about all prescription drugs, over-the-counter medications, and supplements you take so that potential interactions can be properly managed for your anti-nausea or schizophrenia treatment plan.

Missed dose

If you miss a dose of Compazine, take it as soon as you remember. If it is nearly time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose. Do not take a double dose to compensate. Resume your regular prochlorperazine schedule at the usual time.

Overdose

Symptoms of Compazine overdose may include dry mouth, constipation, bloating or stomach cramps, extreme drowsiness or restlessness and agitation, changes in heart rate, fever, and fainting. If you experience any of these symptoms or suspect an overdose, seek emergency medical attention immediately.

Storage

Store Compazine at room temperature between 20-25°C (68-77°F). Keep away from moisture, heat, and direct sunlight. Store out of reach of children and pets.
