Common use
Acular is a prescription nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) formulated as ketorolac eye drops for the effective relief of ocular pain and eye inflammation. When you buy Acular online, you receive a clinically proven ophthalmic solution that works by blocking the production of prostaglandins — chemical mediators in the body responsible for triggering inflammation, swelling, and pain signals. Acular eye drops are most commonly prescribed to manage post-surgical eye pain following cataract surgery, corneal refractive procedures, and other ophthalmic operations. They are also effective for treating seasonal allergic conjunctivitis and reducing eye inflammation associated with various ocular conditions. As a non-steroidal alternative, ketorolac eye drops offer the advantage of anti-inflammatory eye treatment without the risks associated with corticosteroid use, making them a preferred choice for many ophthalmologists.

Dosage and direction
Acular NSAID eye drops are usually applied as 1 drop in the affected eye(s) four times daily, beginning 24 hours after cataract surgery or as directed by your ophthalmologist. For seasonal allergic conjunctivitis, the typical regimen is 1 drop in each affected eye four times daily. The dosage and frequency may vary depending on your specific condition and your doctor's recommendation. Before application, wash your hands thoroughly to prevent contamination. Tilt your head back, pull down the lower eyelid to create a small pocket, and apply the prescribed number of drops. After instillation, gently close your eyes for 1 to 2 minutes and apply light pressure to the inner corner of the eye to minimize systemic absorption. Avoid touching the tip of the dropper to any surface, including your eye, to maintain sterility of the solution.

Precautions
Before using Acular ketorolac eye drops, inform your doctor if you have a history of eye conditions such as glaucoma, cataracts, dry eye syndrome, or corneal ulcers. Patients with known sensitivity to aspirin or other NSAIDs should exercise particular caution, as cross-reactivity may occur. Ketorolac ophthalmic solution may cause temporary blurred vision or mild discomfort immediately after application, so avoid activities requiring clear vision such as driving until your vision has stabilized. Contact lenses should be removed before instilling the eye drops and should not be reinserted for at least 15 minutes following application. Prolonged use of NSAID eye drops may increase the risk of corneal complications, so follow your doctor's prescribed treatment duration carefully.

Contraindications
Acular should not be used in individuals who are allergic to ketorolac, other NSAIDs, or any other ingredients in the product. It is contraindicated in patients with active ocular infections, as the anti-inflammatory effect may mask signs of infection progression. Those with a history of severe allergic reactions to NSAIDs, including aspirin-sensitive asthma or urticaria, should avoid this medication. Acular is also not recommended for use during the third trimester of pregnancy, as NSAIDs may cause complications in late-stage fetal development.

Possible side effect
Common side effects of Acular ketorolac eye drops include transient eye irritation, burning or stinging sensation upon application, and temporary dry eyes. Some individuals may also experience blurred vision, mild headache, sensitivity to light, or a foreign body sensation in the eye. These effects are typically mild and resolve on their own. Rare but more serious side effects may include corneal erosion or thinning (particularly with prolonged use), eye infections, or significant allergic reactions. If you experience persistent ocular pain, significant vision changes, or signs of eye infection such as discharge or increased redness, discontinue use and seek immediate medical attention.

Drug interaction
Acular may interact with other topical ophthalmic medications if administered simultaneously. Allow at least 5 minutes between applying different eye drops. Concurrent use with oral NSAIDs or blood thinners (anticoagulants such as warfarin) may increase the risk of bleeding or other adverse effects. Topical corticosteroid eye drops used alongside Acular may alter healing rates following surgery. Inform your healthcare provider about all medications you are using, including prescription drugs, over-the-counter products, and any other eye treatments currently in use.

Missed dose
If you miss a dose of Acular, apply it as soon as you remember. If it is nearly time for your next scheduled dose, skip the missed application and continue with your regular dosing schedule. Do not apply extra drops to compensate for a missed dose, as this will not improve effectiveness and may increase the risk of side effects.

Overdose
An overdose of Acular eye drops is unlikely due to its localized ophthalmic application. However, if accidental ingestion of the solution occurs, seek medical attention immediately. Symptoms of oral ingestion may include stomach upset, nausea, dizziness, or headache. Thoroughly rinse the eyes with clean water if excessive drops are accidentally applied.

Storage
Store Acular ketorolac eye drops at room temperature between 15°C and 25°C (59°F to 77°F), away from direct light and moisture. Keep the bottle tightly closed when not in use and store it out of reach of children. Do not use the eye drops if they appear discolored, cloudy, or if they are past their expiration date. Discard any unused solution according to your pharmacist's instructions.
